The II Workshop on Recent Advances and Applications in Confocal and Widefield Microscopy is organized by the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory – LNBio, in partnership with Leica Microsystems. The event will be held at the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials – CNPEM Campus in Campinas-SP from 31st August to 4th September 2015. This event is oriented towards current and future users who would like to gain practical and theoretical knowledge in confocal and advanced Widefield Microscopy. The workshop will comprise three different training opportunities: The Minicourse on Basic Principles of Light Microscopy; The Theoretical Activities and The Practical Sections of the II Workshop on Recent Advances and Applications in Confocal and Widefield Microscopy.

The minicourse and the Workshop do not have a registration fee, however the attendance is limited and application is required. The deadline for the applications is until 26th June. Before applying to these events, please, check out the Information for Participants.

Minicourse on Basic Principles of Light Microscopy

31st August from 2 to 6 pm – This minicourse is a satellite event of the II Workshop on Recent Advances and Applications in Confocal and Widefield Microscopy and is oriented towards the ones that want to learn or review the basic principles of light microscopy and discuss sample preparation and troubleshooting for biological imaging. This minicourse aims to discuss the bases of widefield and confocal microscopy that will give support for further lectures that will be held during the program. The attendance is optional and registration is required. The minicourse will be held in Portuguese and is limited to 110 vacancies. Only candidates that have registered in the “II Workshop Recent Advances and Applications in Confocal and Widefield Microscopy” will have the opportunity to attend this minicourse.

II Workshop on Recent Advances and Applications in Confocal and Widefield Microscopy
Theoretical Activities

From 1st to 2nd September – Experts in the field of Confocal Microscopy will present lectures highlighting the basics of Confocal Microscopy, as well as super resolution, correlative light electron microscopy, light sheet microscopy and hight speed imaging. The presentations will also cover the use of widefield and confocal microscopy as a tool to study diverse areas in biology. The participants will have the opportunity to present their works on poster sessions and oral presentations.

II Workshop on Recent Advances and Applications in Confocal and Widefield Microscopy
Practical Activities

From 3rd to 4th September – There will be practical sections directed to 24 selected candidates that demonstrates to have previous experience in using light microscopy techniques. The practical activities will comprise four differentes plataforms: Leica TCS SP8 (confocal microscope), Off line WorkStation, Leica DM5500B (upright microscope) and Leica M205A (stereo microscope). These practical activities will be conducted by Leica specialists that will demonstrate basic and advanced applications for these equipments. Selected candidates may bring their own biological sample to be imaged or discussed.
