Sfor\u00e7a (LNBio)<\/li>\n<li>Nicholas Furnham (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine)<\/li>\n<li>Rafael Counago (SGC\/Unicamp)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Description<\/h3>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Current\u00a0developments\u00a0in\u00a03rd\u00a0generation\u00a0Synchrotron Radiation (SR) sources have enabled new strategies for ligand screening in semi-automated\u00a0procedures, were hundreds of crystals can be soaked with individual fragments\u00a0or mixtures of ligand\u00a0candidates and taken to the beamline for structural\u00a0studies.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this workshop we will present the status of the new MX beamline at Sirius, and invited speakers will cover recent screening strategies and experiences.<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The\u00a0MANAC\u00c1 beamline will be installed in a high-beta straight section of the Sirius\u00a0storage ring, a 4th generation SR, and its main goal is to\u00a0bridge the gap between conventional\u00a0crystallography, which uses large single crystals, and single-molecule X-ray\u00a0diffraction performed in free electron lasers. The beamline will have two\u00a0experimental stations, for the performance\u00a0of state-of-the-art macromolecular\u00a0micro-crystallography employing current methods, with a beam focused in the\u00a0low\u00a0tens of micrometers, and\u00a0nano-crystallography,\u00a0with a submicron focus beam and sub\u00a0mili-radian\u00a0divergence.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The beamline will operate with X-ray energies between 5 to 20\u00a0keV\u00a0with large emphasis on membrane proteins and\u00a0supra-macromolecular protein\u00a0complexes (megadalton\u00a0size), such as receptors, proteasomes, translation\u00a0complexes (protein and\u00a0DNA\/RNA components), bacterial cell division machinery and eukaryotic\u00a0transcription\u00a0complexes. The new beamline and support labs will enable a range\u00a0of automated screening assays for molecular\u00a0fragments and natural products.
