History

The Laboratory of Electron Microscopy (LME) of the Brazilian Nanotechnology National Laboratory (LNNano) was established as an open facility since 1999, offering electron microscopy instrumentation for materials characterization of both scientific and industrial communities from Brazil and Latin America. LME has also been playing a leading role as an electron microscopy training center since 2007 by organizing TEM theoretical-practical courses for the scientific community. So far, six editions of TEM courses were successfully held in January of years 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016. From the sixth edition, the school was nominated “TEM Summer School” following the word class character that was adopted. Now the official language of the school is English, which enable the direct interaction between all attendees, both students and lecturers. The interest of the scientific community in our school have been constantly growing, as attested by the continuous increase in the number of registered candidates in the six consecutive editions. For the 7th edition in 2018, we will offer places for 80 attendees. The school will use most of the transmission electron microscopes available in LNNano. Demonstrations of electron microscopy diffraction, imaging and spectrometry are included, as well as focused ion beam methods and techniques of specimen preparation
