How to participate

Candidates interested in attending the school should be affiliated with an educational or research institution as a graduate student (masters or PhD) or researcher (post-doctoral) in engineering, material science, physics, chemistry or related fields. Researcher associated with the private companies are also encouraged to apply.

All the lectures in the school will be presented in English. So  an acceptable level of English language is required.

Following are the supporting documents (prepared in English) for the application:

  1. Fully completed Application form;
  2. Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) (maximum two pages);
  3. Graduate transcripts;
  4. Summary of research project justifying the use of TEM techniques (maximum two page).
  5. Essay justifying why is important for you to attend the school (maximum two pages).
  6. Recommendation letter (maximum two pages).
  7. An abstract of partial or complete analysis of your own scientific research, using TEM, to present as poster.

Abstracts must be written in English, including authors and their respective affiliations. The abstract title is limited to 300 characters, including spacing. Abstract text is limited to 2000 characters, including spacing and punctuation. Figures, if any, must be included in page 2, with captions.

Those interested in attending the school who do not yet have partial or final results, may submit the abstract focusing on the structural/analytical characterization problem of the own research, and thus explaining what TEM techniques intend to apply and how, based on the literature, to solve it.

 

Attention: the lack of any of these documents implies the automatic disqualification of the candidate

Registration fee table

For this edition, we’ll be charging a registration fee that will cover the admission to all the lectures during first and second week of the school, coffee breaks and shuttle to hotel. We define a new deadline to confirmation your participation and payment of the registration fee (as shown in the table).

* Registration Fees for residents in Brazil. Foreign candidates should consider the money exchange (around US$100 for graduate students and US$150 for Post-doctors and researchers)

 

Observation: Participants approved for the third week of practical classes do not need to pay any additional fees.

 

Cancellation and Refund Policy: After releasing the selected participant list, please confirm your participation sending an email to lme@lnnano.cnpem.br. We have a waiting list. If you have to cancel your participation after paying the fees, please send an email explaining your case. The refund policy is as follows: cancellations received until 23 November 2015, 75% of amount will be refunded.

Financial Support

Students in need of financial support (except for travel costs, visa and health insurance expenses) for accommodation, food expenses and local transportation during the event must demonstrate interest while filling the application form. Since the amounts approved by funding agencies may not be enough for all the participants, we encourage all the selected participants to obtain the financial aids through other sources as well.

Students with FAPESP scholarships are welcome to apply. FAPESP fellows with technical reserves, such as amount exclusively dedicated for research purposes and to participate in scientific meetings should not apply for financial support.

We expect to have a total of 100 participants: 50 from São Paulo State residents, 25 from other Brazilian states and 25 from abroad.

The organizing committee will publish the list of the selected applicants and contact individually to arrange for specific travel needs.
