Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory – LNBio at the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) offers a position for a Research Scientist to lead an ambitious population-based research project investigating the possible impact of climate change on the human methylome.

Main Activities


The future Research Scientist on Climate-Associated Epigenetic Adaptations of the Human Genome is expected to:

Establish and oversee an effective research programme, including sample collection, generation of array-based DNA methylation profiles and robust analysis of these datasets
In collaboration with CNPEM staff and researchers, contribute to the development of a hub for Epigenome Wide Association Studies (EWAS) that may detect and predict climate change-related health impacts and thereby help prepare and benefit the Brazilian society.
Facilitating access to this state-of-the-art service through collaborations with community- and population-based health research groups and organisations.
Seek research funding from international and national funding agencies, and/or the private sector.
Mentor graduate students and interns, and supervise technical staff.


Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, or related fields;
Ph.D. in Genetics, Bioinformatics, Data Analysis, or related areas;
Fluency in English;
Proficiency in computational tools and programming languages;
Preferential experience in epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS) or genome-wide association studies (GWAS);
Strong record of publications in these research fields is desirable,but not required;
Experience in securing competitive research funding is desirable.
