{"id":519,"date":"2025-02-06T13:36:40","date_gmt":"2025-02-06T16:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pages.cnpem.br\/xrm2026\/?page_id=519"},"modified":"2026-01-29T13:07:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T16:07:12","slug":"werner-meyer-ilse-memorial-award","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pages.cnpem.br\/xrm2026\/werner-meyer-ilse-memorial-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Werner Meyer-Ilse Memorial Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Werner Meyer-Ilse Memorial Award is given to young scientists for exceptional contributions to the advancement of X-ray microscopy through either outstanding technical developments or applications, as evidenced by their presentation at the International Conference on X-ray Microscopy and by supporting publications.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Nominees must meet the following qualifications:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Have performed the work as part of a completed Ph.D. thesis within the two-year period prior to and including the conference or are expected to receive their Ph.D. degree in the very near future.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The work should align with the conference themes.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The work must be available to the award committee as conference papers, publications, or preprints,<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Nominees are required to submit an abstract request for an oral presentation of their work at the conference.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Nominees are required to attend the conference in person.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The call for abstracts deadline for this conference is also the deadline for WMI award nominations.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Nominators should supply the following information:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Nominee\u2019s name, affiliation, CV, and contact information,\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Provide a short description (max. one page) of the work performed by the nominee and an explanation of the importance of the work.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pages.cnpem.br\/xrm2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/181\/2026\/01\/XRM2026_WMI_Nomination_Form.docx\">Use the\u202fWMI award nomination form<\/a>\u202fand include copies of relevant publications or preprints. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Supporting letters of recommendation are strongly encouraged.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Joint nominations (nominating more than one person for the same work) are not allowed.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;541&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">WMI nominations need to pass the same regular scientific merit review as other oral presentation requests. Nominations selected for poster presentation will not be considered for the WMI award. All WMI nominees and nominators will be informed about the results as soon as practically possible. Accepted nominees will receive a <strong>travel support of US$500<\/strong> to aid participation in the conference. Nominees have to be present at the conference and will compete in person for the WMI award.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Werner Meyer-Ilse award consists of a medallion, citation and a <strong>US$3,000 cash prize<\/strong>. It is presented at the end of the XRM2026 Conference. Werner died in a tragic automobile accident a few days before the 1999 conference.
