THE EVENT

The Integrative Structural Biology meets Drug Discovery Workshop is promoted by the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials - CNPEM, EU-OPENSCREEN, Instruct-ERIC and CEBEM.

The workshop will be held at CNPEM, Campinas-SP Brazil, from May 19th to 23rd, 2025.

In the first three days of the workshop, the participants (up to 60) will attend theoretical classes by experts in Drug Discovery, Structural Biology (crystallography, cryo-EM, NMR) and in silico approaches, which are aimed to level all the participants in this multidisciplinary workshop.

The last two days (May 22nd-23rd) are dedicated to practical sessions, which will be exclusive for 20 selected participants.

Discussions will cover the theoretical basis of each topic, followed by real life examples applied to Drug Discovery projects. Each topic will be addressed in 30-minute lectures, organised in 1.5h thematic sessions, which will be followed by Q&A sessions.

The hands-on part includes instructions and Q&A followed by real life experiments in HTS, crystallography and cryo-EM at CNPEM.

WHY PARTICIPATE

This meeting represents a training and information exchange opportunity for current and future researchers in drug discovery and structural biology. The workshop intends to foster collaboration among the groups working in these areas in Latin America and Europe. The instructors will be from Brazil, Latin America, Europe and UK, covering the different disciplines and visions of structural biology and drug discovery.

  • Regionality, aiming to cover different regions in Brazil and different countries in Latin America;
  • Gender balance

The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is a Social Organization supervised by the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).  It is responsible for managing the Brazilian Synchrotron Light National Laboratory (LNLS), Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio), Brazilian Biorenewables National Laboratory (LNBR), the Brazilian Nanotechnology National Laboratory (LNNano) and, with support from the Ministry of Education (MEC), for managing Ilum School of Science.

EU-OPENSCREEN is a research infrastructure that provides access to a comprehensive collection of chemical compounds, screening platforms, datasets and services for chemical biology and drug discovery. It supports researchers in accelerating the discovery of novel bioactive compounds and exploring new therapeutic targets.

Instruct-ERIC is the European structural biology research infrastructure, providing access to high-end structural biology services to researchers around the world.

CEBEM is a network of scientific research groups that work collaboratively to enhance capacities in Structural Biology and Bioimaging in South America. It is formed by research nodes in 4 member states of Mercosur countries (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay) and an associate state of Mercosur (Chile), all of which stand out for their excellence at regional and international level.
