Whenever possible we apply fundamental science to guide technology developments at semi-industrial scales. We focus on identifying creative ways to develop technologies and processes for the solution of industrial problems. We are committed to sustainability, by finding ways to minimize environmental impacts and to improve competitiveness and economic feasibility of the technologies we develop and test.

Research Areas

Scaling-up of Processes

A modular multi-purpose Pilot Plant with scaling-up capabilities to develop, test, evaluate and demonstrate new processes and technologies at semi-industrial level.

Physicochemical Analysis

Physicochemical analysis and development of analytical methodologies for a deep understanding of biomass, ranging from its fractionation to the identification of compounds that are central for industrial processes.

Bioprocesses

Bioprocess is the heart of technological processes involving yeasts, fungi and bacteria. We have bioreactors of various sizes and experience converting different types of biomass into biorenewables.
