Guidelines for participation

The MANACA WORKSHOP is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and researchers who work with protein purification and expression in groups not specialized in crystallography , especially using synchrotron radiation.

All information filled in the application form and attached documents must be in Portuguese

Interested parties must complete the application form before the deadline and submit the following documents:

  • Resume (Lattes/Research ID or other resume format in PDF)
  • Abstract on the current research topic (up to 2000 characters, including spaces)
  • Cover letter (up to 4000 characters, including spaces)
  • Letter of recommendation from supervisor or group/tab leader (up to one page)

Selection criteria

The workshop has a limited number of places, therefore, a selection process will be carried out.

  • Candidates will be evaluated based on the documents submitted (CV , summary , cover letter and letter of recommendation)
  • The organizing committee will seek to achieve gender equity and regional representation among participants.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from groups not specialized in macromolecule crystallography.
  • Sending samples is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended. 

Guidelines for abstract submission

Please make sure you have read these guidelines before submitting your abstract. Abstracts submitted outside of this format will not be considered for review. Please remember that all required fields must be completed to complete the submission process.

Submission of abstracts is mandatory, and all selected participants must present their abstract on the current research topic as an Oral Presentation.

Financial Assistance

In the registration form, participants may indicate their interest in receiving financial assistance for accommodation and/or transportation, however, candidates must be aware that indicating the interest does not automatically guarantee the granting of assistance.

  • All requests will be evaluated according to the financial availability of the event.
  • Only undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral students will be eligible for assistance.
  • There will be a selection process by the organizing committee, and those selected will be notified by email.
  • Those receiving accommodation assistance will be allocated a double-room with a person of the same gender.
  • Up to 5 nights of accommodation per participant will be covered.
  • Preference will be given to students with projects that can be carried out on the MANACÁ beamline.

Applicants must submit a letter justifying their request, explaining what they expect to achieve with the workshop.
