Grants

To be eligible to financial support, applicants must submit an abstract by May 24th, following all the rules, and present their research or proposed research during the meeting.

The Scientific Committee selects the abstracts to be presented as oral or poster presentations. After acceptance, applicants must confirm their interest by paying the registration fee until September 30th.

The grants will be announced by the end of September 2019 or as soon as the approval of resources is received.

Note: Financial support depends on the resources approved for RAU by the funding agencies.

LNLS will observe the following rules for the benefit concession’s:

1) Transportation

1.1) Air tickets
May be granted to participants holding a MsC or PhD degree, or to the guest speakers. Those granted will be contacted individually before purchasing the air tickets.

1.2) Reimbursement of bus ticket
May be granted to all participants, including students, but excluding those based in Campinas.

2) Accommodation
May be granted to all participants, including students but excluding those based in Campinas. Researchers holding productivity grants level 1 from CNPq are not eligible to receive any kind of financial support.

Notes
  • The participants who are receiving financial support of any kind must be in the meeting full time, not only on the day when their work will be presented (poster or oral communication);
  • In case of “no show” at the event, the beneficiaries must send us a message at least one week in advance, in order to avoid “no show” charges from the air company and/or hotel. Since the charges depend on the supplier’s policies, if cancellation is not possible, the beneficiaries will be held responsible for those expenses.
  • Those granted with an air ticket are free to choose the flight dates between: a) November 2nd to 4th for the arrival flight and b) November 8th to 10th for the departure flight. No change in the dates (anticipation or extension) are allowed after the ticket is emitted. It is mandatory to check-in online and to send the return boarding passes to eventos@cnpem.br right after this procedure. Change of dates or the loss of the boarding pass will imply in refusal of grant in a next event promoted by the LNLS/CNPEM.
  • The grant will not necessarily cover costs of both accommodation and transportation in all cases. The Organizing Committee is committed to inform what kind of assistance was conceded to all beneficiaries, considering distance and the expense price.
Documents

Visitors to Brazil must obtain a visa from a Brazilian Consulate (in some cases, Embassy) unless they come from a visa exempt countries.

Information on this topic may be found here: http://www.portalconsular.itamaraty.gov.br/vistos-para-viajar-ao-brasil. In case of questions, we strongly recommend you check with your local Brazilian diplomatic mission if you need to apply for a tourist visa beforehand.

The Local Committee (eventos@cnpem.br) can provide a letter of invitation if you need to present it for visa or academic purposes. The Invitation Letter from the CNPEM may NOT be enough to obtain a Brazilian visa.

  • Passport

The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned date of departure from Brazil.

Venue

The 29th RAU will be held at the premises of the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), located at the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) in Campinas, São Paulo. The city of Campinas can be reached from São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport in approximately 1 – 1.5 hours by bus or car.

This will be the second edition to be held at the brand new Sirius Synchroton Light Source!

CNPEM

The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is a private nonprofit organization located in Campinas, Brazil, which is funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MCTIC). It is dedicated to cutting-edge research in materials, nanosciences, life sciences, physics, and chemistry through four National Laboratories: Synchrotron (LNLS)Biosciences (LNBio), Biorenewables (LNBR) and Nanotechnology (LNNano). The four laboratories are open facilities for external users and companies, from Brazil and abroad. They also have teams of researchers to provide support for projects, as well as to conduct joint research programs in biomass, green chemistry, drugs and cosmetics development, characterization of advanced materials, catalysts, etc.

LNLS

The Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), located in Campinas, at São Paulo state, operates the only synchrotron light source in Latin America, providing high brilliant light from infrared to X-rays for the analysis of organic and inorganic materials. Designed and built with Brazilian technology, LNLS was inaugurated in 1997 as an open facility to the scientific and industrial communities across the country and abroad.

SIRIUS

LNLS is currently engaged in the conclusion of Sirius, the next Brazilian synchrotron light source. It is planned to be a state of the art fourth generation machine, designed to be one of the most advanced in the world. Its ultra-low emittance and thus high brightness will open up new perspectives for research in many fields such as material science, structural biology, nanoscience, physics, earth and environmental science, cultural heritage, among many others. The first stage of Sirius Project was delivered in November, 2018 and it is planned to start its operation in 2019.
