About the Workshop

The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), an organization overseen by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI), is hosting the Workshop on Resonant Inelastic and Elastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS/REXS), which will take place from August 18 to 21, 2025 at Campinas SP, Brazil. As a satellite event, the 6th School on X-ray Spectroscopy Methods (SXSM) will take place on August 15–16, 2025.

The RIXS/REXS Workshop will bring together leading experimental and theoretical researchers to discuss recent advances and emerging applications of resonant inelastic and elastic X-ray scattering techniques. The scientific program will feature invited talks, contributed presentations, and a dedicated poster session.

The 6th School on X-ray Spectroscopy Methods will provide a solid foundation in the RIXS technique through a series of lectures covering fundamental principles, experiment design, data analysis, and interpretation. Participants will also engage in hands-on tutorials focused on data processing and simulations.

Both events aim to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technical expertise in the rapidly evolving field of resonant X-ray spectroscopy.

Target Audience

Recommended for undergraduate and graduate students (Master’s and PhD), postdoctoral researchers and professionals in the fields of physics, chemistry, engineering and materials science

Main Topics

Highlights on cutting-edge research on quantum materials, magnetism, electronic order and excitations using advanced resonant x-ray scattering methods and related theoretical techniques.

General Information

  • The official language is English.
  • The events will be a full in-person format. Participants must attend at least 75% of the activities of each event to get a certificate.
  • CNPEM is committed to reducing plastic consumption on its campus premises. One of the measures taken to achieve this goal is to reduce the availability of single-use cups in its buildings. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own bottles and/or mugs for use in the common areas.

Selection Criteria

  • RIXS/REXS: A limited number of spots are offered. If registrations exceed capacity, selection will be based on abstracts.
  • 6th SXSM: a motivation letter (1000 characters) is mandatory for application.

Abstract Submission

Abstract submission is not mandatory for registration but highly recommended. Scientific committee will evaluate abstracts and they will be accepted if related to the thematic scope of the event. Some works will be assigned for oral presentation and the remaining works will be presented as posters.

Fields below are mandatory and must be filled in to complete the submission process at the EventWeb system, respecting the deadline.

  • Abstract Title
  • Author
  • Institution
  • Body (up to 2000 characters, including spaces)
  • References (up to 400 characters, including spaces)
