A private non-profit organization under the supervision of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI), CNPEM brings together highly specialized multi-thematic teams, sophisticated laboratory infrastructure open to the scientific community, research and development projects in strategic areas, partnerships with the productive sector and training activities for young researchers.

CNPEM operates four National Laboratories and is the birthplace of the most complex project of Brazilian science – Sirius. More recently, with the support of the Ministry of Education (MEC), CNPEM expanded its activities with the opening of Ilum Science School – an innovative and interdisciplinary undergraduate course in Science, Technology and Innovation.
