Physicochemical Processes

It is dedicated to the development, improvement, and application of physical-chemical processes to obtain biofuels, intermediates, and renewable chemical blocks from the main constituent fractions of plant biomass within the biorefinery.

For this purpose, the facility has an infrastructure with fractionation and milling systems, chemical synthesis, separation and purification of products, chemical catalysis employing reactors capable of operating in a wide range of pressure/temperature, solvents, and pH. In this context, the Plant acts in one of the major bottlenecks for these processes: the separation of biomass components (cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin).
